Smart glasses are no longer a far-off sci-fi dream - they’re here and they’re going to change the way we experience the world.
The future? Well imagine a pair of stylish sunglasses that not only shows you notifications, directions, and augmented reality overlays, but also taps into the power of AI to deliver personalised assistance on the go. That’s the promise of smart glasses, but where are we today, and how are different brands stepping up their game?
Take Halliday for example, a lesser-known player in wearables. Their latest smart glasses were recently showcased at CES 2025, and thanks to their sleek lightweight design and the all-important display, they raised the bar for smart glasses. With an invisible display built into the frame, they offer on-demand information such as access to content, answers to questions, pop-up directions or reminders, without making you feel like you’re wearing a clunky gadget. Plus, they’ve added AI integrations that help you get things done with simple voice commands. With recent software upgrades boosting battery life and voice control, Halliday is setting a new standard for what smart glasses can do right now.
Meanwhile, Meta is charting its own bold course. Their current Ray-Ban smart glasses lack a display, but focus on AI capabilities and a camera, it’s smart, intuitive, and provides a digital assistant, but it's not quite the smart glasses people envision. But don’t count Meta out: they’re already given a demo of the future with their upcoming “Orions” series - which are regarded as market-leading tech, but who knows when they will hit the market? Rumours are swirling that the Ray-Bans could debut a simple display as early as this year, paving the way for a more immersive augmented reality experience down the road.
Beyond just being a cool tech accessory, smart glasses are set to reshape our world. This wearable tech will streamline daily tasks, transform how we work and learn, and redefine consumer experiences across industries: from healthcare and education to retail and entertainment. By blending the digital and physical realms, smart glasses promise to make our lives more connected, efficient and personalised.
Many companies are trying to stamp their mark on the world of smart glasses. Whilst its still in its infancy, smart glasses will transform how we experience the world, content and human interaction is unfolding right before our eyes. One thing’s for sure - the future of wearable tech is bright, and it’s here to stay.
